Psalms: Sing to the King

Posted by Mike Willis on Friday, May 21, 2010. Comment.
This Sunday, we're starting a 4-week preaching series on four Psalms!  The series is entitled "Psalms: Sing to the King".

The Psalms reveal to us how our brothers and sisters of old related to God with their emotional devotion, how their knowledge of God affected their decisions and feelings, but mostly ... their worship.

Psalms isn't a collection of coffee-house poetry...
   it's an opus of truth
    with resolute response
     to the character of God
      aimed at God-worship
       forecasting Jesus Christ!

The New Testament writers, through the Holy Spirit, quote the Psalms far more than any other book.  Jesus had the Psalms memorized and communicated His own message and mission using the pre-inspired and foretold Words from the Psalms.

Everyone I know wants to grow in prayer, but your growth will stunt unless you're a student of the Psalms.

Every emotion you've ever felt and many you have yet to feel pulse through the Psalms, but these emotions do not pulse ambiguously without God as do culturally-driven emotions.  Emotion for God causes devotional fervency to love and live for Him.

Psalms are songs from the soul, emotion with devotion, so we might join in the heavenly chorus and Sing to the King!
