Good Friday solemn worship

Posted by Mike Willis on Thursday, March 18, 2010. Comment.

Why can we call 'good' the Friday on which we remember the crucifixion of Christ?

That Friday was horrific
For Jesus: excruciating physical and spiritual pain
For Jesus' earthly family: weeping and/or doubting
For religious skeptics: uh-oh because they realized He's who He said He is
For meteorologists: who didn't forecast the gloomy afternoon

That Friday was good
For Jesus: who accomplished His mission of atoning for our sin
For God the Father: who's redemptive plan was now purchased
For us: our sins were atoned for - trust Jesus Christ for salvation

Let's gather on Good Friday for solemn worship, remembering the broken body and spilled blood of Jesus Christ, so that we could be healed and filled.

Some unique aspects of our worship together on Good Friday:
Wear black: Be solemnly focused
Grieve sin: Be confessing
Thank the Savior: Be humbled

Then comes Sunday morning - Jesus' isn't on the cross or in the grave anymore.  He's alive on a throne interceding for you!
